Tomorrow is the annual Rice Dumpling Festival. It's a chinese festival that falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month and many Chinese will make rice dumplings during this festival. My mum does it almost every year. But this year is my first attempt to make rice dumplings. Haa... cuz im super FREE (or rather im super BORED) haa.. nevertheless i still learn something out of my freedom (boredom).. the first few dumplings i made were HORRENDOUS.. haa.. it's suppposed to be some triangular shape but ended up in some quadrilateral shape.. haaa!!! Apprentice la.. first time learning it.. but fortunately as the afternoon went by the dumplings i made looked kinda decent (considered that i learn it in 2 hours time) haa... but still can differentiate the ones that i made from the ones that my mum made..

My mum told me that she started learning when she was only 15 and she learnt it all by herself... Here's how she did it.. after eating the dumplings, she will keep the leaves and examine the shape and tried to work backwards on how to twist the leaves and make it into triangular shape... What an ingenious mum i have!!! (wonder what happened when she gave birth.. missed out passing such genes to her daughter).. All the time she has been tasting the yummy food from restaurants and hawker centres and back at home she will try to figure out the seasoning ingredients and stuff like that so as to improvise on her cooking.. So one conclusion - my mum is a GREAT cook!!! haa... that's why my dad became a fatty after marriage (he used to be a bamboo.. haa).. and i become quite critical with food.. Anyway still very thankful that my mum has a flair in cooking... will learn from here in time to come.. haa... when there's a urge maybe.. hee
